I have c.net and b2.c.net in my DNS suffix list, so the server's IP address cannot be resolved using only the servername. At my current company, one of our Analysis Server's fully qualified name is a.b1.c.net where 'a' is the servername.

For example, in a multi-domain environment might happen that specifying only the servername is not enough, especially when the server's DNS suffix is missing from the DNS suffix list (Control Panel > Network Connections > Local Area Connection (or the relevant connection) right-click > Properties > Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) > Properties > Advanced > DNS tab > here you can play around with all DNS settings, suffixes as well). To be honest, at first I wanted to exclude that there is a name resolution error. I didn't have the chance to visit the Forums at all.
